Festive Days Out Made Easy: Chauffeured Trips to York Christmas Market 2026

Oct 27, 2026

York Christmas Market returns on 12 November, with one big change this year. Here’s what to know before you go, and why leaving the car at home makes the day far more enjoyable.

There’s something about York in the run-up to Christmas. The lights go up, the Minster glows against the early dark, and the smell of mulled wine drifts along Parliament Street. For many people across East Yorkshire, a trip to the Christmas Market is a fixture of the festive calendar, whether it’s a family tradition, a day out with friends or a relaxed afternoon with clients.

The tricky part has never been the market itself. It’s getting there and back.

What’s New for 2026

York Christmas Market runs from Thursday 12 November to Monday 21 December 2026. As always, the alpine chalets line Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square, and more than 80% of the traders are based in Yorkshire. That makes it a great place to find gifts with a local story behind them.

This year there’s one important change. As a trial, City of York Council has made Tuesday a weekly rest day, so the stalls are closed every Tuesday. On every other day the market is open 10.30 am to 7 pm, with an earlier 5 pm close on the final day, 21 December. It’s worth checking your date before you plan the trip.

The Problem with Driving In

Anyone who has driven into York on a December Saturday knows the routine. There’s queuing traffic on the A1079 and the outer ring road, city-centre car parks that fill up early, and then the walk back to the car laden with bags as the light fades. Park & Ride helps, but it still means juggling shopping, children and timetables.

There’s also the question of who drives. A festive day out often includes a glass of something warming at the market or a long lunch afterwards, and someone always ends up as designated driver.

Let Someone Else Take the Wheel

With a pre-booked chauffeur, the whole day becomes part of the treat. We collect you from your door in Hull, Beverley, Driffield or anywhere across East Yorkshire, and you spend the journey chatting, planning your shopping list or simply watching the Wolds roll by.

When you arrive, your driver drops you as close to the city centre as the day’s traffic arrangements allow, and we agree a pickup time and place in advance. When you’re ready to head home, your car is waiting. There’s no searching for a parking space, no long walk back with heavy bags, and nobody has to stick to soft drinks.

Choosing the Right Car

For couples or a small party, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a comfortable, refined way to make an occasion of the day. It’s ideal for an anniversary treat or a quiet afternoon with an important client.

For families and groups of friends, our Mercedes people carriers keep everyone together in one vehicle, with room for the shopping on the way home. It’s a sociable choice: the conversation starts at the front door, not at the market gates.

Plan for the Busy Weekends

Weekends from late November through to mid-December are traditionally the busiest time in York, and they also fall in the middle of party season. If you have a particular date in mind, especially a Saturday, it pays to get it in the diary early. Weekday visits from Wednesday to Friday are often calmer, and they’re well worth considering if you’d prefer a more relaxed browse.

Make It a Day to Remember
